Two years ago, the presidents and executive directors of the nine regional booksellers associations met to discuss ways we could work collaboratively to help booksellers. One idea was to use the incredible resources from our different quiz bowls. The idea of an exclusive calendar for independent bookstores was born.
A project like this takes dedication and vision on the part of many people. We’d like to acknowledge and thank them all, and show them that their service to us is appreciated.
To the creators of the Quiz Bowl Questions for their respective regional associations, we thank Joe Drabyak of Chester County Book & Music Company; Sherri Gallante of Vromans Bookstore; Carol Besse of Carmichael’s Bookstore; and Hut Landon of NCIBA.
To Workman Publishers, we thank Steven Pace, who shared our excitement and vision, and Peter Workman who gave the green light and donated so many of the resources to produce the calendar for the independent market. He said numerous times, “if it is good for the independents, it is good for Workman.”
To Bookazine’s Rich Kallman and Kathleen Willoughby who immediately said “yes” when distribution was in question. Partners and Partners West’s Gloria Genee and Sam Speigel stepped up to the plate with the same generous spirit so that the entire country was covered by booksellers’ own independent wholesalers.
“Eat.Sleep.Read” is the brainchild of the American Booksellers Association and the Indiebound program, and the jumping off point for us all as we try to reinforce the shop indie shop local message of this calendar.
