The Online Product Catalog for the
2010 NAIBA Fall Conference
books@naiba is the conference's first online catalog companion that will present all of the key titles featured at the conference in a convenient dedicated online catalog.
Show attendees, members who are unable to attend, and other interested book professionals will be able browse, tag, share, print or order titles contained in the books@naiba catalog. Exhibitors will be able to share show-specific notes for their titles and title-specific events will be highlighted within the catalog.
- books@naiba is open to all conference exhibitors and other relevant attendees with titles being presented or promoted at the show such as authors or illustrators.
- To participate in books@naiba, your title must be loaded in Edelweiss.
- If you are part of an Edelweiss client publisher, then you can simply select the titles you would like to be part of books@naiba. Otherwise, you can load your titles into Edelweiss using our new Serendipity service.
- Serendipity costs $20 per title per month for the first title and $10 per title per month for reach additional title. Serendipity is a month-to-month subscription service - payment for a single month of service will cover your participation in books@naiba (as well as any of the other regional shows you may be attending or participating in.)
We'll be providing an access code that you can use to log in to Edelweiss and easily identify the titles you want included in books@naiba. If you are not an Edelweiss publisher and would like to get a head start on entering your titles via Serendipity, click here to sign up.
Please fee free to email Mark Evans you have any comments, questions, suggestions or feedback on what features would provide the most value to you in sharing and promoting your titles to naiba members and your customers generally.
For Publishers - Some Ideas for the Conference
The NAIBA Fall Conference is the time to reinforce the potential
of specific titles. Here are some ideas:
- Create events with theme ideas and targeted audiences.
- Demonstrate merchandise & display ideas.
- Provide lists of midlist authors who live in the region
with publicity contacts, book title/subject, and ideas on
event ideas.
- Show display ideas featuring NAIBA Holiday Catalog titles.
- Give out Pick of the Lists handouts that include text for
newsletter reviews, shelf talkers, display ideas, reviews,
author interviews, list of previous works by author.
- Use this opportunity to introduce the best from new imprints.
- Set up a themed bookstore display with their titles and
merchandise.
- Use this opportunity to remind booksellers of all the support
material available within the company and on your website.
For Authors
Author Display Tables at NAIBA
Many authors start out as self-published or their publishers
aren't represented at events with booksellers. To help booksellers
make some fresh discoveries, NAIBA sets aside tables to be shared
by authors who are taking charge of their careers and coming
to meet independent booksellers. The fee per author at this
community table is $100 and the caveat is that they must have
an endorsement from an independent bookseller. Available only
to authors promoting no more than 3 of their own titles.
Other Opportunities for Authors
Monday, September 20th
Preview Supperfeatures one adult and one children's book
author/illustrator. Authors will be given 15 minutes for their
speech. The event also includes "table-hopping" by the authors
throughout the event.
Author Reception after the Supper, during our Dessert
Bar and Quiz Bowl. Opportunity for authors to autograph books
and socialize with booksellers.
Tuesday, September 21st
Children's Breakfast featuring three children's authors/illustrators.
This event can be sponsored in its entirety by a publisher,
who will have all three speaking spots to showcase their authors.
Movable Feast Luncheon features eighteen authors who
rotate among different tables for each course of the lunch.
ø Only one author at a table; at some point during the lunch,
each author is given microphone time to handsell their book
to the booksellers. ø Everyone receives a tote bag filled with
the featured books. ø Dedicated tables for children's booksellers.
ø Partial sponsorships by publishers are available, guaranteeing
four spots for their authors. The eighteen featured spots are
divided among picture book, young adult, fiction and nonfiction
authors.
Noir Bar features mystery/suspense/thriller writers
from the region at a cocktail reception ((9:30pm-11pm) after
the Awards Banquet.
Wednesday, September 22nd
Exhibit Hall is open to attendees from 9:30am to 4:00pm.
Autographings are scheduled throughout the day at publisher's
tables OR at select tables in the aisles near publishers' displays.

is an opportunity for two authors to engage each other and discuss
